FINAL DOUBLE PAGE

This is now my final double page spread, i have decided to make some changes from my old double page spread. I have decided to change the title colour of the spread to pink as i think this stands out more and looks more effective for the genre i have chosen. i have also decided to add another smaller image in the text as i think this looks good, it also gives the reader another image instead of text, however it is still relevant to the text. i have also used the quote idea from lots of magazines i have researched. i have highlighted a quote and made it larger so it stands out, i have done this as i think it looks more effective and can attract the reader. My final change was i added a banner at the bottom with a pull quote and a sort of advertisement to buy 'next weeks' edition of the magazine, i have done this as it adds more to the page, it is also a idea i have used from other magazines.

After doing my contents page i then took on the advice of others to change the layout out of my contents page and add a few things to it. First of all i decided to change the title of my page to 'inside this week...' rather than 'contents page' as i think this is less formal, i have also changed the font as this font also looks better for the genre and for the title of a page. I have also added more pictures as by looking at other magazines espically the 'We love pop' magazine that they use lots of images on their magazine. I have also decided to add captions on the photos in my magazine as i think this looks more professional and it tells the reader what the page is about. Another thing i have added to my improved contents page is adding page number onto the pictures i have used on the page, i got this idea from the 'We love pop' magazine i also think this looks effective and not to formal, i have alos used yellow font on the pictures as this stands out. 

I also decided to change the colour of my content font as this is a lighter blue like the border on the side so it is keeping the house style of using blues, whites and pinks with the edition of yellow on this page.

FINAL FRONT COVER

I have now made some improvements on the front cover of my music magazine. I have decided that i would change the colour of the masthead to pink. I have changed this to pink as it fits in with my colour house style of the magazine and it also stands out. Before it was pink, i used the red which did stand out however i had used pink throughout so red didnt really fit into the house style of my magazine. I have also changed the yellow to white as i think white stands out more and the yellow didnt really fit into my colour house style. I have also decided to change the position of my price to above the barcode. I have done this because after looking through some magazines of the same genre such as 'We love pop' they also do this which i liked so i decided i would also use that idea. I have also added some more text in the pink boxes with another caption and a pull quote, i have done this because lots of magazines of the same genres do this and i think it looks effective and adds more to the front cover.

CONTENTS RESEARCH

Here is a We Love Pop contents page, when making my music magazine i have looked at different contents pages such as this to help me with the layout and content of mine. Here you can see on this it has the blue border, i have also used this on my magazine. I also like the use of the pictures with the page numbers on on, i have also decided to use this on my magazine along with a small caption to tell the reader what it is about. I like the use of these images as it is more visual and not just packed full of text. On the left of the magazine contents page their is also a short but of text, i have also used this idea when creating mine as i think it looks good. Above the contents listing it also says 'Inside this month', i think this is a good idea as it is less formal thank just 'contents page' so i have decided to call my contents page this, i have also put 'Inside this week' as my main title on the page as i think  by doing this the reader knows straight away what the page is about and knows exactly the contents page is here.

RESEARCH FRONT COVER

When making my magazine i took inspiration from the we love pop magazine which is of similar genre to mine. I took inspiration from the layout of the magazine as you can see from my magazine that mine is very similar layout. i also took inspiration from the colours of the magazine as they are bright and i have also used bright colours when using my magazine. i have also used the bottom idea of the posters as i think this is a good idea. i have also used the we love pop magazines to decided on colours in my magazine, i have counted the number of different colours they use and have seen on each magazine they use around 3-4 different colours, so on my magazine i have also done this, they also use bright colours which is good for my target audience as they are younger so bright colours will attract the reader. I have also used the We love pop's idea of barcode in the bottom right, i have also found from my research that many magazines do this along with the price so i have also decided to do this.
The second 'We Love Pop' magazine also shows me the use of the pink, whites and blues, i think think this looks good and catchy so i have also decided to use these colours when creating my magazine.

Here is my mock-up of my magazine front cover, i have done this so i know where to put things when designing my magazine, it will also help me with the layout when designing it.

PHOTOSHOOT

For my main photos i chose a rural location id one this because i like the clear background, i also think it is a good background for my story title which is about a boyband (M4) going home. By saying they are going home and using this setting suggests they come from a rural background which i wanted to create. After my shoot i had a number of pictures to chose from, i deleted some pictures then kept the ones i wanted, i also used Photoshopto edit some of the photos to make them look better.

PHOTOSHOP SKILLS

Above is my original picture that i took when doing my photoshoot. i decided i liked this picture and that i could use it for my magazine, however i thought that it looked a bit to dark and needed brightening up a bit. This was because when the shoot was taken it was around 6'oclock so it was starting to do darkish. in order to make my pciture brighter i used Photo shop where i could change the brightness and contrast of the picture to make it look more effecitve.

Above you can now see the picture after i have used Photoshop to brighten it up. You can now see i have used the brightness tool so i could make the picture brighter which will stand out more on my front cover.

MAGAZINE NAMES

after choosing my genre of Bubble-gum pop which is aimed at younger children i have now started to think of different names.

I have come up with three possible names for my magazine

1.  My first name i have thought of is 'Gum' which is short and simple so it could become quite catchy. Also because my genre is Bubble gum pop i have chosen the Gum from that.
2. My second option for my name was Pop, however i am going of this idea as Pop can offer a wide variety so if someone looks at my magazine and shes pop they may think automatically it includes all types of pop which it doesnt.
3. My third name option is Bubble-Gum, i have decided that i will be using this name for my magazine. i have chosen this name as my genre is bubble gum pop so i think the name is quite catchy it also tells the reader from the off what my genre is.

TARGET AUDIENCE

For my music magazine i have chosen the genre of bubble-gum pop which is pop for a younger audience. Because i have chosen this genre i will be aiming my target audience to the younger generation aimed 7-15. My target audience may also lean slightly biased towards girls as it will be modelled on acts such as One Direction and Justin Bieber that girls seem to like more than girls.
Becuase my target audience will be of this age group i will be using brighter colours such as reds,light blues, yellows,pinks because these colours will attract younger readers and also come across more light hearted and simplerer than other darker colours. I will also have to make the text simple and not too complex in order to meet the critea of the target audiece.

Above are my photos i have taken to include in my newsletter of the camera. I have now uploaded th photos on to the computer so i can decided which ones are the best and which ones to use in the newsletter. i have quite a few photos however i will not actualy be using them all, instead i have taken lots of images so i can chose the best ones possible to use in my newsletter. I also have the oppertunity to use photoshop to edit any of my photos if they do not look quite right.

MOCKUP NEWSLETTER

Here is my mockup for my news letter i am going to create. I will be folowing this in order to postion things when creating my newsletter. i have also used page guides so i can ensure things are in line with eachother so it makes it look as professinal as it possibly can.

SEMIOTICS

Semiotics is the study of signs. A sign is something that stands for/signifies something other than itself.
The two main theorists behind semiotics were: Ferdinand de Saussure 1857-1913 and Charles Sander Pierce 1839-1914. 

Ferdinand de Saussure said that signs are dyadic, meaning they consist only of a form of a sign-the signifier and its meaining-the signified.
Charles Sander Peirce defined signs as "something that stands for something, to someone in some capacity".

Photoshop lesson

Here above you can see there is two pictures. First of all we had the picture on the top which was in colour. However using photoshop we were able to edit the photo to make it black and white. This is something that we have learned to do using photoshop.

Above you can see the original photo of six bottles sitting on a piece of wood. However we were given the task of removing the bottles of the wood and making it look as if they were never there. In order to do this we had to delete the bottles using the spot heeling tool. We then used other bits of the background to fill the bit we had deleted in order for it to look genuine.

IDEOLOGY

What is Ideology in Media?
Ideology in media is a body of ideas or set of beliefs that underpins a process or institution and leads to social relations. These sets of beliefs are those held by group within society, and prevalent ones are those held by the ruiling/ dominant groups.


Ideology in a school newsletter...
In my school newsletter the ideas i want to get across to the reader are attributes such as...

• Modern - In order to show the school is modern through the newsletter i will use modern texts and colours. I can also show the school is modern through pictures, i can show pictures of new technology such as Ipads.
• Safe - In order to show the school is a safe environment i can talk about new saftey methods in place by the school.
• Caring - To show the school cares through the newsletter i will show images such as teachers with children and talk about after school lessons. i could also talk about the use of mentours.
• Professional - in order to show the school was professional i would make the newsletter professinal by making sure the text, font and house style looked professinal
• Good Standard - i would also try to get across to the reader that the school was off a good standard, i would do this by showing A-Levels and GCSE results.

NEWSLETTER

Throughtout the news ltter they keep the same font and font size which keeps it conisitant and maintains a gtood house style. they also use the same colours and in total use a number of five colours which are white for the background which is good as the text that is mostly black in very clear. There is also blue and red use which is the theme colour of the school and the school logo. this is good because it is professional. throughtout the newsletter the text is clear, it is also at a good size which helps make it clear, they also use images throughtout which is good as it may attract readers. they also maintain the use of columns which is good as it is keeping with the codes of magazines and newspapers. at the top of the newsletter they also use the deyes high logo which is good as it stands out and the reader knows what they newsletter is for and where its from
